About Me and My Poetry

I am a retired editor and now teach young authors about how their best pieces can be improved upon and how others (editors, critics and audiences) will view their work. I have 3 published books of poetry, most of it confessional and autobiographical; MIDNIGHT, COLD and SUNDOWN. My upcoming book AFTERMATH should be out in January, 2013. I live with two cats who have absolutely no interest in anything I do. I enjoy working with poets who wish to stretch their legs and hone their skills and do so mainly via email exchanges. Any review I make should be considered criticsm only and not an attack on the poet or his or her body of work. I review each poem as a separate entity.

Know the difference between Japanese and English haiku. The Japanese haiku and the English language haiku have several critical differences. While all haiku are divided into 5 syllables, 7 syllables and then five, the structure varies based on the origin of the haiku.

While not a big fan of the rhyming format, for obvious reasons, I must confess before God and my fellows that I did, once upon a time, use the very format I now disregard to make a little cowgirl happy.

My eight-year old niece from Oklahoma, who tells me with a straight face that it it doesn't rhyme, its not a poem, asked me to write a cowboy poem for her 9th birthday.
