About Me and My Poetry

I rode as a bullrider on the pro rodeo circut for several years. I also was deployed to Iraq four times during OIF and was injured 3 times. My poems come from the heart break of being apart and the love of what I do and have done.

Always so tired not knowing why.
Weary and dreary, just waiting to die.
The wound at first seemed so clean.

The gripping pain of the lost.
Finding it is part of the cost.
A great hero that was to be.

He stands outside in the pouring rain.
His body trembling with all the pain.
With each drop, it lashes upon his skin.

He sat stiffly at the end of the bar.
His face sagging and covered with scars.
He thought back on why he was at this place.
That fair young lady covered in satin and lace.
He asked the bartender for another drink.
Maybe one more shot would help him think.
She wanted a strong hero fresh from the war.
But, she had no idea just what was in store.
She not only got the strong man she had seen.
She got his burdens of war, which was like a bad dream.
The sleepless nights and shadows always in the corner.
She found that this hero was destined to be a loner.
One night she was gone, a feather in the wind.
So, he headed to the bar to let the drinking begin.

Beginning the day, shaking off the cold.
Wishing dearly for someone to hold.
Letters she writes faithfully every day.

I have seen the sun set in the frozen valleys of Bosnia.
I have seen it rise in the burning dunes of Iraq.
I have held a new born child as it breaths its first breaths of life.
I have held a dying soldier as he breathed his last.
I have tried to give life and I have taken it.
I have felt the seething anger deep inside.
I have lost love and cried.

Do these actions make me a God or a devil?
On my judgment day I will revel.
Because then the truth will be known.
And maybe just maybe I will finally find a home.

The little man in the wall asked me to fly.
Staring with a puzzled look, I asked why.
To find the truth of it you must go out.

Scars inside hurt worse than those out.
Racing through his mind making him shout.
Constantly fighting the strong desire to end it all.

Wake up early with the bright rising sun.
Picking up and cleaning the well-worn gun.
The wounds are deep and cause much pain.
